Western Medicine is Falling Short: The story of my Autoimmune Disease
I sit here with a foggy head. I'm exhausted and have a migraine. In the past 6 months there has been a shift in my health. I take care of myself with the right nutrition, working out several times a week, I love my job and family and I manage stress pretty well.
I knew something was up and went to my doctor. Upon receiving my blood work I could clearly see I have developed an autoimmune disease and more than likely it's Hashimoto's. BUT do you know what the endocrinologist said was "lets just wait and watch?!" This drives me crazy as a practitioner!! When it comes to health, why do we have to advocate for our selfs so frequently?
Did you know that western medicine will only start treating thyroid problems once your thyroid has given out or has hit close to rock bottom? I don't get it. Did you know you can help prevent that from happening with natural supplements and diet/lifestyle changes? What is happening here? Treating in the early stages can slow down the progression of Hashimoto's, decrease thyroid antibodies, shrink goiter, improve symptoms/overall well being, improve muscle and nerve pain, improve depression and increase fertility.
Here's what to ask for when testing the Thyroid...TSH, T3, T4, free T3, free T4 and Thyroid antibodies. Thyroid antibodies are crucial to test for Hashimoto's and Graves disease. Most doctors range for each of these are too broad and I have a different range. I will start treating if all or certain levels are on the low or high side.
This. This is why I do what I do. I listen and PREVENT future upset for my patients. Are you struggling with Thyroid health? Want to approach regulating it from all sides? Want to prevent further damage to your thyroid? Come on in and lets figure it out, together. I also know some amazing doctors that treat preventively and we can make big headway, together.
Much much love ~ Katie
